Palm Springs City Guide

One of my favourite places to visit is Palm Springs, CA. Last year I was fortunate enough to visit twice, once on our west coast road trip and another at Designer Vaca. There is something really special about relaxing in the desert and I would go back asap. Today I’m going to share my favourite places to stay and visit.

WHERE TO EAT

Palm Canyon Roadhouse – This place is really nothing special but after a long day of driving it was nice to sit on the patio, drink a beer and relax. The food was decent and they had live music while we were there.

Kings Highway – Kings Highway is right next to the Ace Hotel. I highly recommend eating here at least once. It is a bit overpriced but the food is really, really good. I had the avocado toast and the big breakfast while staying at the Ace. They also serve Stumptown coffee which is alway a good choice. If you plan on visiting during Coachella be prepared to wait in line for hours, our waiter was telling us about how insane it gets.

Elmer’s – When visiting for Designer Vaca a few of us girls wanted food that wasn’t at Kings Highway, so we walked 5 minutes down the street to a homey restaurant, Elmer’s. It’s a typical family restaurant but the food was cheap and good.

Grind Burger Bar – I highly recommend checking this place out while in Palm Springs. The food was excellent and decently priced and the customer service was great. Although I didn’t get one, their milkshakes look to die for.

WHERE TO STAY

Ace Hotel – Staying at the Ace is a must when in Palm Springs. The vibe is total chill and the rooms are unique and cozy. There’s a coffee shop right across the street if you feel like stepping away from the pricey hotel food. There’s also a Walgreens and a grocery store that is about a 20 minute walk, although, it does get very toasty so bring some water if you plan on doing any walking.

Best Western – We stayed here during our road trip and it was a typical Best Western experience. The outdoor pool was pretty nice and right next to the mountains. We had our free breakfast outdoors by the pool. It’s a short walk to the Ace so if you are looking for a cheaper place to stay I recommend here and then walking over to the Ace for some pool time.

WHAT TO DO

The Parker Hotel – The Parker is a great place to have brunch and explore the grounds. It’s truly a unique vibe and the hotel looks like it came out of a 50’s movie.

Moorten Botanical Garden – This place is cactus heaven. You pay a small fee and you can explore the area and take a million cactus photos. There is even an area where you can purchase some friends to take home with you. We talked to the people who own it and they were the nicest / friendliest people. This place is also a short walking distance from the Ace.

Dinosaurs – If you have a car then I suggest checking out the large dinosaurs because, why not?

Joshua Tree – you could literally spend a full day at the Joshua Tree but if you have a car then it’s a must even for just a few hours. It’s an amazing experience to be there and the views and landscape are out of this world.

Salvation Mountain – Salvation Mountain is about an hours drive from Palm Springs and definitely worth the trip. Being in Salton Sea is like being on another planet.
